Emergency Project Expands Reach with First Mission to Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic

Emergency Project has completed a successful medical mission in Puerto Plata, marking our first time serving in this region of the Dominican Republic. While we've previously worked along the Haiti border, this mission extended our reach into rural communities in the north — many with large Haitian populations facing significant barriers to care.

Our team delivered emergency and primary care in low-resource settings, trained local healthcare workers in obstetric emergencies and airway management, and donated essential equipment including nebulizers, ultrasound tools, and airway training devices.

This mission also represented powerful continuity. We were joined by Michael, a young man with cerebral palsy whose first steps we witnessed years ago with the help of a donated gait trainer — now working his first job with EP. And Frankelly, whose leg was saved on a previous mission, returned fully recovered and assisting in clinic.

In addition to clinical care, our team distributed educational supplies, equipped community partners with tablets and tech, and deepened our relationship with local leaders.

We’re grateful to our volunteers and partners for making this mission possible — and remain committed to the belief that health is a human right, and no one should be left behind.
