Haiti, a nation just a short distance from U.S. soil, remains the poorest and most dangerous nation in the Western Hemisphere, plagued by political instability and ecological disasters. Nearly half the population lacks access to basic health and nutrition, with 22% of children under five suffering from stunted growth. The country’s healthcare system faces immense challenges, with emergency departments often staffed solely by nurses and limited access to higher-level providers.

After three trips to the region, in partnership with FONHARE, EP has been working to address critical healthcare gaps in northeastern Haiti by organizing emergency provider-based missions. These missions aim to deliver patient care while sharing knowledge and resources to strengthen local health services. Although our efforts were met with great enthusiasm, the rising threat of political violence has temporarily paused this initiative. We remain steadfast in our commitment to resume this vital work when conditions improve, standing in solidarity with the Haitian people in their pursuit of a healthier and brighter future.
