Rescate Integrated Care Initiative
In the Dominican Republic, Emergency Project delivers care in some of the country’s most underserved regions, from the Haitian border in Dajabón to the rural outskirts of Puerto Plata. These communities face significant barriers to healthcare access—particularly along the border, where vulnerable populations, including many Haitian migrants, often avoid seeking care altogether. Through repeated missions, our teams have cared for thousands of patients, providing free, high-quality medical evaluations, diagnostics, and treatment in areas where few alternatives exist.
As our work has grown, so has our commitment to building something lasting. We are currently developing a permanent clinic and operational home base in the community of Mosoví, in partnership with Live Different, with plans to open in 2027. This clinic will expand access to consistent, high-quality care for an underserved population, including those who may otherwise avoid the healthcare system. Modeled after our Guatemala program, it will provide ongoing clinical services, point-of-care diagnostics such as ultrasound and EKG, limited lab testing, and a foundation for continuity of care. Together, this evolving model is not only addressing urgent needs in the present, but laying the groundwork for a more sustainable and accessible system of care in the future.
A cornerstone of our work is our partnership with Rescate Ámbar, one of the country’s leading emergency response organizations. Our volunteers work side by side with their teams—not only through formal training and education, but also in the field, responding to real 911 EMS calls and supporting frontline emergency care. This hands-on collaboration creates a rare, immersive model that strengthens both clinical capacity and emergency response systems in a region with high rates of trauma and limited prehospital resources.
