Darren Cuthbert, MD, MPH

Dr. Darren Cuthbert is an emergency physician, expedition doctor, and global health advocate with extensive experience delivering care in some of the world’s most underserved and challenging environments. As a Professor of Emergency Medicine at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School and a practicing physician at Jersey City Medical Center, Dr. Cuthbert merges academic expertise with hands-on action to address critical health equity gaps. He has authored numerous contributions within medicine and public health, with his work featured in esteemed journals such as The Journal of Emergency Medicine, Military Medicine, Emergency Medicine, and others.
As the original founder of Emergency project, Dr. Cuthbert has used his vision to create and lead transformative missions in areas devastated by ecological disasters in Zimbabwe and Southeast Asia, Syrian and Palestinian refugee camps in Jordan, rural Mayan communities in Guatemala, and the conflict zones of Ukraine and Haiti. He has also worked to improve trauma care in the Dominican Republic, supported women’s and children’s clinics in Pakistan’s Swat Valley, and served on expeditions in the extreme environments of Antarctica and Svalbard while working as an Expedition Physician with Lindblad-National Geographic. A U.S. Army veteran, both enlisted and as an officer, Dr. Cuthbert’s career reflects a lifelong commitment to service, innovation, and empowering communities through healthcare.
