Founded in 2021, Emergency Project was established with the goal of promoting and advocating for public health measures to increase access for those living in a world without emergency healthcare. Our project collaborates with strategic partners while utilizing the practical tools of modern day emergency medicine, a growing specialty in most of our world, to care for patients and enhance medical services in regions suffering the greatest health inequities. Our teams have coordinated humanitarian missions in the Dominican Republic, Haiti, Ukraine, Pakistan, Syria and Zimbabwe.

Our Mission
Emergency Project’s mission is to bridge the gaps in global health through humanitarian work that integrate the core principles of emergency medicine. Our focus is straightforward: find communities in need, then provide direct assistance and continuity of care through ongoing partnerships.
Our teams of doctors, PA’s, nurses, paramedics and nonclinical volunteers organize free health clinics while providing patients and local staff with the resources and training necessary to create the largest impact possible, utilizing the practical utility of modern day emergency medicine.

Our impact
EP in action
chimanimani, Zimbabwe
In January 2024 EP created a provider based mission in the remote mountains of Chimanimani, Zimbabwe - an area where health services are largely inaccessible. This region was further impacted by Cyclone Idai in 2019, drastically worsening the state of their health crisis.
EP provided primary and urgent health services at various rural clinics throughout a weeklong period within one of the most heavily impacted areas. Our team donated Butterfly ultrasounds, EDAN EKGs, iPad tablets with open-access educational applications, as well as various other diagnostic tools to assist in continuity of care. We continue our commitment with on-going remote patient assistance and partner education.

Jordan has the second highest refugee population in the world due to surrounding conflict and geopolitical instability. Nearly 60% of Syrian and other refugee populations are living in extreme poverty and struggle with accessing basic services.
Our team of providers completed two successful missions in 2023, caring for over 3000 patients. We worked alongside community volunteers and regional medical schools providing primary and urgent care services to this vulnerable population. Each provider was equipped with a Butterfly ultrasound and our trip concluded with a global health conference and ultrasound workshop dedicated to advancing emergency and diagnostic care abroad.
Pakistan has recently been labeled the frontline of climate change secondary to drastically rising temperatures in the south with the rapidly melting Himalayan glaciers to the north. This led to some of the worst flooding in human history in 2019, which impacted the lives of 33 million people, leaving many without access to the most basic of health services.
Our team of emergency and primary care volunteers ventured into the remote Himalayan foothills of the beautiful Swat Valley to provide assistance in March of 2023. Our team cared for over 2500 patients at a local women and children’s health clinic, while also providing education to local providers and donating vital diagnostic tools.

At a time where Europe was confronted with the worst refugee crisis since WWII due to Russia’s brutal invasion of Ukraine, our team was fortunate to join forces and assist Operation White Stork (www.whitestork.us) as they built the largest refugee evacuation programs in the region.
Our team provided support on multiple occasions bringing evacuees to safety, while also bringing vital health related supplies into the country. Due to whitestork’s partnership with airbnb, after the 37,829 refugees were evacuated, 14,590 were then provided with 30 days of free shelter in Europe. Whitestork continues their mission by helping those directly impacted on the frontline.
Dominican Republic is seen by our team as the birthplace of Emergency Project. Warm and friendly, culturally and ecologically diverse, DR still finds itself with health gaps to be filled when it comes to emergency and basic healthcare services.
After various trips to DR since 2021, we’ve provided assistance to various partners, including educational and resource support to Rescate Ambar, and primary care services within the Haiti border towns of Dajabon and Capotillo.

Emergency Project is an organization led mostly by a team of experienced emergency medicine practitioners. Our focus is to assist communities in-need who have been impacted by some of the most concerning issues confronting humanity. Whether it be climate change, conflict, famine, or natural disaster; it’s our belief that emergency medicine as a specialty has the potential to make the largest impact to those with the greatest need.

EP is willing to accept clinical and non-clinical based volunteers from a broad spectrum of backgrounds. Emergent conditions often require specialized care well beyond the acute stages of illness, therefore it’s vital that we include the assistance of other forms of specialization. We advocate for cross-specialization based missions to improve quality of care for the communities we serve as well as for inter-organizational team building.

EP was birthed from the the simple fact that most human deaths result from inadequate emergency medical care around the world, most notably in lower income nations (54% in 2019 alone according to the World Health Organization). With Emergency Medicine as a specialty unacknowledged in most of our world, the WHO is now claiming that “It is vital that the world now seizes the chance to do things differently.” And that there is a “welcome sense of urgency to efforts to strengthen the way the world prepares for, prevents, detects, and responds to health emergencies”
It’s a part of our mission to do things differently by addressing these urgent needs while on our humanitarian missions. Our goal is to learn from the mistakes of the past when addressing global issues, to make the greatest impact possible using our skills as emergency providers.

Our missions are a mutually beneficial experience for both the communities we serve and the volunteers on our teams. Extensive literature suggests that the greatest limitation to the advancement of emergency medicine as a specialty is physician burnout in high and middle income nations. Volunteerism and global health work are proven to counteract this pressing issue. We at EP make it one of our highest priority to include team-building and wellness activities that are a cultural and therapeutic experience for our team as well.
